Highlights

4% Xylocaine (lidocaine HCl) topical solution is indicated for the production of topical anesthesia of accessible mucous membranes of the oral and nasal cavities and proximal portions of the digestive tract.


Directions For Use

  • The dose is 15 ml not more often than every three hours. 
  • For use in the mouth, the solution should be swished around the mouth for 30 seconds and spat out.
  • For use in the throat the solution should be gargled and may be swallowed. This dose may be reduced for elderly patients.


Warnings

  • This medicine is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless absolutely necessary.
  • This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless absolutely necessary.

Precautions

  • This medicine may interact with many other medicines and may cause severe adverse effects. Hence, it is advised that you inform the doctor about all your current medicines including any herbs and supplements before beginning treatment with this medicine.
  • This medicine should be used with extreme caution since it may increase the risk of methemoglobinemia.
  • This medicine should not be applied to the eyes. Wash the eyes immediately with water if contact with this medicine occurs.
  • This medicine may cause allergic reactions like cutaneous lesions, urticaria, edema, anaphylactoid reactions, etc. in some patients. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required based on the clinical condition.
