Dosage Of Augmentin Tablet
Augmentin medicine gives best effect when you take it in start of your meal.
Adults (Augmentin Tablet)
- The usual dose of 500mg tablet of Augmentin is for every 12 hours.
- The usual dose of 250mg tablet of Augmentin is for every 8 hours.
- For severe infections 875mg tablet of Augmentin is for every 12 hours.
- For severe infections 500mg tablet of Augmentin is for every 8 hours.
Adults (Augmentin oral suspension)
Many adults have difficulty in swallowing tablet that’s why their health care provider gives them oral suspension of Augmentin.
- 125mg/5ml or 250mg/5ml suspension is given to adult patients in place of 500 mg tablet.
- 200mg/5ml or 400mg/5ml suspension is given to adult patients in place of 875mg tablet.
Pediatric Patients
Neonates and infants age less than 12 weeks (less than 3 months)
- The dose of Augmentin 30mg/kg/day is for every 12hours.
- The dose of Augmentin 200mg/5ml is recommended for some limited age group, In this case you should consult your doctor or pharmacist first.
Patient aged 12 weeks or older (Augmentin oral suspension)
- 200mg/5ml and 400mg/5ml oral suspension is for every 12 hours
Patient aged 12 weeks or older (Augmentin Tablet)
- 200mg and 400mg chewable tablets of Augmentin is given only in those children’s which are not phenylketonurics.
The 250mg tablet of Augmentin is not used in child weigh at least 40kg due to different ratios of ingredients present in Augmentin which are amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium.
Precautions
There are some medical conditions in which Augmentin is strictly prohibited are given below,
- Please don’t use Augmentin if you are allergic to amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium
- If you have severe kidney disease
- If you had liver problems
- If you are hypersensitive to penicillin’s or cephalosporins antibiotics
- If you had mononucleosis
- If you have phenylketonuria (PKU)
- If you are breast-feeding a baby
- Augmentin make birth control pills less effective so, if you are taking birth control pills ask your doctor or pharmacist first before taking Augmentin medication.
- Do not give child this medication without medical advice.
- Always shake your Augmentin suspension before use.
- Do not crush Augmentin tablet before use, Swallow the pill whole or half but don’t crush the tablet of Augmentin.
