Highlights

This medication is used as an adjunctive therapy (treatment given along with the main treatment) for different types of seizures (sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain which may produce changes in your behavior, movements of consciousness) and in certain types of epilepsy (a brain disorder which causes you to have seizures) in patients inadequately controlled by other medications. It is also used in migraine prophylaxis (to prevent a brain disorder which causes intense headaches). 


Description

Topiramate is a medicine that is used to treat seizures, which are sudden, uncontrollable electrical abnormalities in the brain that cause aberrant behavior and unconsciousness. Topiramate is also used for preventing migraine. Topiramate acts by lowering aberrant electrical activity in the brain.


Directions For Use

Take precisely as directed by your doctor.

Swallow the tablet with water.


Warnings

Topiramate should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. It has the potential to harm an unborn child. Pregnant females should consult their doctors for further information.

Topiramate can make you dizzy, drowsy, or have blurred vision. If you have such symptoms, avoid doing activities that demand mental awareness, such as driving a car.
