Everything you need to know about controlling severe flare-ups of inflammatory skin disorders like eczema with this highly strong topical steroid. Clobetasol propionate, often known as dermovate cream or ointment, is a medication applied topically to relieve swelling, itching, and irritation. It is frequently used to treat skin disorders like psoriasis and eczema.
Indications
This medicine is used to treat psoriasis, an inflammatory dermatosis that creates bumpy, red patches on the skin, irritable eczemas, and other inflammatory dermatomes (skin disorders).
Uses of dermovate cream
It is used to reduce inflammation caused on skin disorders like eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis. The corticosteroid functions by preventing the compounds that skin cells release, which cause the recognizable redness, swelling, itchiness, and pain of inflamed skin.
Side effects of dermovate cream
At the site of application, this drug may result in burning, stinging, itching, dryness, or redness. Applied to the skin initially. Stretch marks, acne, skin infections, severe unwelcome hair growth, and other problems are also possible. If you see any of these consequences, speak with your doctor. Dermovate can cause side effects if it is applied to large areas of skin, broken or raw skin, delicate skin, such as the face, or skin that rubs against other skin, such as armpits or skin folds. It is also more likely to cause side effects if it is applied for an extended period of time or under airtight dressings. Topical corticosteroids are known to have the following side effects.
The usage of a side effect does not imply that all users of dermovate will experience it or any other side effect.
Inflammation of the skin where it was applied. After applying the cream or ointment, if you notice any symptoms of an allergic response, such as increased itching, skin redness, or burning, you should stop using it and see a doctor.
- Skin that is getting thinner
- Decreased skin coloration.
- Stretch stains
- Under the skin, groups of tiny blood vessels are becoming more visible (telangiectasia).
- Excessive growth of hair (hypertrichosis).
- Acne.
How to use dermovate cream
Apply dermovate thinly and gently rub it in using barely enough to cover the entire affected area once or twice a day until improvement is notices.
Avoid using the cream or ointment on damaged or infected skin unless the infection is also being treated, and only when specifically instructed to do so by your doctor and only for a maximum of five days.
If you accidentally get the cream or ointment in your eyes, mouth, or nose, immediately flush with cold water and wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. If the hands are the area being treated, use the cream or ointment on the region that needs it.
As these increase the absorption of the medication into the body and hence raise the chance of adverse effects, avoid covering the area being treated with tight dressings like bandages or other dressings unless specifically instructed to do so by a doctor.
Dermovate uses for more than five days at a time if a professional to treat a child’s skin or skin on the face has prescribed it. As long as your doctor has advised you to, keep using dermovate. Always follow by doctor’s instructions. After two weeks of treatment, if your skin condition has not improved, see a doctor.

Who should not use dermovate cream?
Children under the age of one are not allowed to use dermovate cream or ointment. Avoid using the cream or ointment on skin that is broken, open, or suffering from any of the following conditions:
- Viral skin infections, such as herpes simplex, shingles, chickenpox, or cold sores
- Bacteria caused by skin diseases, such as impetigo
- Yeast-related skin conditions include athlete’s foot, ringworm, and thrush
- Acne
- rosacea and acne
- an itchy, rash area around the mouth (perioral dermatitis)
- Where there is no inflammation, the skin itches
- Itchiness in the vaginal area and anus
- widespread psoriasis with plaques
- nappy rash
If you have a reaction to any of the substances in the cream or ointment, avoid using it. If you are aware of any specific allergies, look up the ingredients in the medicine brochure.
Pregnancy or beast feeding
Only use dermovate if your doctor considers it necessary while you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Even if your doctor advises you can use dermovate while you expecting or nursing, you should not use it for extended periods, on big regions of skin, or under tight bandages. This will reduce any medication absorption. If you must apply lotion or ointment to your breasts, wait until after feeding the baby.
Precautions
Patients who have an allergy or hypersensitivity to this medication or other related medications should be advised not to use this medication. For better guidance and more information, the patient should also give their doctor their comprehensive medical history.
Diabetics
When using clobetasol 17-propionate if you have diabetes, your doctor should keep a careful eye on your health because it may alter blood sugar regulation (either increasing or decreasing blood sugar levels).
Eyes: on lesions near the eye or on the eyelids, do not use this drug. The danger of increased eye pressure, glaucoma, cataracts, or infection rises if the medicine enters the eye. Contact your doctor as soon as you can if you have eye symptoms like vision problems or pain.
