Adalat is used to treat high blood pressure or angina (chest pain). For high blood pressure: Adalat works by relaxing and expanding the blood vessels. This makes the blood flow more easily and lowers blood pressure. Lower blood pressure reduces the strain on your heart.

Description

This medication is used alone or in combination with other drugs to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Nifedipine belongs to a class of medications known as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily.

Directions For Use

Take this medication by mouth on an empty stomach, usually once daily or as directed by your doctor. Swallow the tablets whole. Do not crush or chew the tablets. Doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.

Warnings

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.

Precautions

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to other calcium channel blockers (such as felodipine, amlodipine); or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.
