BALDNESS IN MALE

If you have a family history of baldness, then you also have a chance of hair loss.

Male baldness is a genetic issue associated with sex hormones called androgens.

Androgens have many functions including regulating hair growth.

CAUSES OF MALE BALDNESS:

ALOPECIA AREATA: In this condition, hair falls out in small patches on your head, eyelashes, eyebrows, or another part of the body. When your body’s immune system attacks your healthy hair follicles, it results in hair loss and hair does not grow back this condition is called alopecia areata.

TELOGEN EFFLUVIUM: This condition occurs when hair loss may be triggered by an accident, surgery, illness, some kind of stress. In this case, hair regrows within 2 to 6 months.

NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCY:  Deficiency of nutrients can cause hair loss. Protein and vitamin D are very important for overall health as well as hair growth.

Can medication cause hair loss?

Yes, medication can also cause hair loss like chemotherapy drugs, acne medications such as isotretinoin, anticoagulants such as warfarin, blood pressure medications such as beta-blockers, antidepressants such as sertraline or fluoxetine.

TREATMENTS:

Hair loss can be treated through:

1- Medication:

People regrow their hair at a slow rate by using Minoxidil medicine. It will take at least six months.

2- Laser treatment:

Red light therapy is also called low-level laser hair therapy and is used to grow fuller and thicker hair. Laser devices treat hair loss in both men and women.

3- Hair transplant surgery:

There are two types of hair transplant surgeries which are given below:

  • FOLLICULAR UNIT TRANSPLANTATION (FUT): In this transplant, the skin section is removed from the back of the scalp where the hair is still growing. These sections of the skin are further divided into hundreds of tiny pieces and inserted into the part of the scalp where the hair is not growing.
  • FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION (FUE):  In this type of transplant, the surgeon makes small holes where the hair is not growing and puts the individual’s healthy follicles into these holes.
