Highlights
- Initial therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control when diet and exercise do not provide adequate glycemic control, when dual sitagliptin and metformin HCl therapy is appropriate (i.e, high initial HbA1c levels and poor prospects of response to monotherapy)
- As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled on metformin HCl or sitagliptin alone or in patients already being treated with the combination of sitagliptin and metformin HCl
- In combination with a sulphonylurea as an adjunct to diet and exercise in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus when combination therapy with metformin HCl and sulphonylurea does not provide adequate glycemic control
- As an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in combination with insulin in patients with type 2 Diabetes mellitus inadequately controlled on insulin and metformin HCl or in patients already being treated with the combination of sitagliptin, metformin HCl and insulin.
Directions For Use
- Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water.
- Take this medicine with or without food, preferably with food.
- Swallow it as a whole, do not crush or chew the medicine.
- Take it at the same time to help you remember.
- Or use it exactly as instructed by your doctor.
Warnings
- This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy. Consult your doctor for more information.
- This medicine is not recommended for nursing females. Consult your doctor for more information.
- This medicine doesn’t usually affect your driving ability. If you are experiencing trouble, please avoid driving and consult your doctor.
- This medicine should be used cautiously in liver patients. Consult your doctor for proper dose adjustment.
- This medicine should be used cautiously in kidney patients. Consult your doctor for proper dose adjustment.
- Avoid excess alcohol consumption when using this medicine, it might increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
Precautions
- Assess risk factors for lactic acidosis (buildup of lactate causing acidic pH of blood stream). Discontinue immediately if metabolic acidosis (overproduction of acid in the body) is suspected.
- Monitor renal (kidney) function at least annually.Discontinue the medicine for 48 hours before and after the elective surgery.
