What is HB Electrophoresis?

In your red blood cells, a protein is found. Its main job is to carry oxygen from your lungs to the rest of your body and is known as Hb. There are many different types of hemoglobin in our body that perform different task. Hemoglobin electrophoresis is a test in which, it is measured the different types of hemoglobin in the blood exists. It also finds out if your blood has any abnormal type of Hb.

• In the sickle cell trait. You can either have one sickle cell gene or one normal gene. Most people with sickle cell trait do not have health problems.

• The hemoglobin C disease is a condition in which a mild form of anemia and sometimes an enlarged spleen and joint pain can occur.
