What is the HPV DNA Test?
This is a lab test in which sample is taken from the patient’s cervix. Cells will be scraped from cervix and in those cells, it will be checked if the DNA of human papillomaviruses HPV is present or not. Human Papillomaviruses is something that can cause abnormal tissue growth. For instance, warts and it also caused other changes to cells as well. If this infection stays for longer time, then it will cause some types of cervical cancer. If the infection is prolonged then other types of cancers can also be caused like cancers of the anus, vagina, vulva, penis, and oropharynx. That is why it is called HPV test.
When is this test performed?
HPV is a kind of screening test used for cervical cancer but it is not a diagnostic test for cervical cancer. It only tells that you are at risk of getting the cervical cancer. In this test, the presence of HPV virus can be detected through sample of cervical cells. The types of HPV — including types 16 and 18 both of then increase your cervical cancer risk.

you will be asked to get this test in some intervals of time to keep a track if
there is any sign of the cervical cancer or not.
